Bonacom's 1x1 Mode Field Adapters (MFA) efficiently expand the mode field of a single mode optical fiber or LMA fiber to match larger LMA fiber. These devices are bidirectional and can also be used in reverse to compress the mode field when the output end is used as an input.
While a standard splice between two asymmetric fiber geometries can lead to high insertion loss and degradation of the beam quality, a mode field adapter uses an adiabatic taper between the two fibers to gradually expand or compress the mode field. Therefore, when the mode field adapter is spliced into a beam delivery system or other high-power setup, maximum signal transmission and M2 beam quality are achieved.
